Fitness fears for Super Eagles central defender Osho ahead of Auxerre's clash with Lille
Published: January 08, 2025Super Eagles centre-back Gabriel Osho is racing against the clock to be fit for Auxerre's upcoming Ligue 1 clash against Lille on Friday due to injury.
Osho's injury, which is reportedly related to his knee, may very well sideline him for an unspecified period.
He was absent from Auxerre's matchday squad for their recent defeat against Strasbourg, and according to French sports daily L'Equipe, he is unlikely to recover in time for the Lille game.
Despite attempting to train on Wednesday, Osho was deemed too weak to participate fully, raising concerns about his availability for the upcoming match.
Auxerre's medical team will be working to assess the extent of the injury and determine a timeline for Osho's return.
Osho has been a key player for Auxerre this season, scoring once in 12 league appearances.
His potential absence will be felt, particularly against a strong Lille side that is pushing for a Champions League spot.
Auxerre currently sit ninth in the Ligue 1 table, while Lille occupy fourth place, just two points behind third-placed AS Monaco.
On the international front, the English-born Osho became cap-tied to Nigeria in November 2024 when he was named in the starting lineup for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin's Cheetahs.
Auxerre will be hoping that their Nigerian defender can make a speedy recovery and return to the pitch soon.
He joined the club in the summer of 2024, after being released by his former club Luton Town who just got relegated from the English Premier League at the time.
