Anjorin reminds Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle of his quality with goal for Empoli on injury return

Chelsea academy graduate Faustino Anjorin came off the bench to salvage a point for Empoli in a 2-2 draw against Venezia in a Serie A match on Sunday afternoon.

The former England youth international is among the dual-national players being monitored by Eric Chelle, but until today, he had been unable to showcase his qualities to the Super Eagles coach due to a thigh injury sustained over two months ago.

With Empoli struggling in the Serie A, manager Roberto D'Aversa felt compelled to bring him back from injury sooner than planned.

And the gamble paid off, with Anjorin netting his first-ever goal in the Serie A in the 87th minute, ten minutes after he came off the bench to replace Liam Henderson.

After a goalless first half, Empoli took the lead in the 59th minute with Jacopo Fazzini getting the all important touch following a cross from Liam Henderson.

Yeboah, on the far post, knocked the ball over the line to draw Venezia level and Gianluca Busio made it 2-1 at minute 85.

It was an eventful end to what was a critical game for both teams as Tino Anjorin curled a low shot into the bottom corner from just inside the box to make it 2-2 with three minutes of regulation time left.

The draw leaves Empoli and Venezia on 25 points, still trapped in the relegation zone and unable to leapfrog Lecce, who have 26 points after 33 games.

Anjorin logged 1,000 minutes across eighteen matches before scoring his first goal in the Italian top-flight.
