Joseph Yobo: Nigeria Needs To Win Something
Published: January 18, 2013Fenerbahçe SK central defender Joseph Yobo will play in his sixth African Cup of Nations in South Africa, which kicks off on Saturday.
Once again, the Super Eagles captain has commented on Nigeria's chances of winning the trophy on February 10 when the final is played in Johannesburg.
''This is a very special tournament for me, on my own personal achievement but most importantly for the team. Nigeria needs to win something. I am working really hard with the chief coach. It is not just about me, it is about the team. If we can achieve something, I will be pleased.I believe in this team, chief coach and the technical crew. We started this journey slowly, we didn't qualify last time, now we have qualified. Now that we are here for the tournament, we are going to take one game at a time.
''I am more experienced in this tournament so I know how it goes. We don't have pressure to win it immediately. When we have progressed the confidence is going to come. I believe in this team as I said, if I did not believe in the team, I don't think I would be here. The chief coach has worked really hard, we are coming here with full force. It is one game at one time and hopefully our confidence will increase by the end and we'll see what happens,'' Joseph Yobo told Brila FM.
Nigeria are drawn in Group C alongside defending champions Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia. They play their first game in the tournament against Burkina Faso on Monday, January 21.
