'The ball is good' - Rangers legend hails Iwobi for brilliant assist in Fulham's 2-1 loss against Brighton

Rangers legend Kris Boyd has praised Alex Iwobi for his crucial assist in Fulham’s 2-1 loss to Brighton at the American Express Stadium on Saturday.

Iwobi set up Raul Jiménez’s opener in the 35th minute after a brilliant solo run from his own half down the right flank.

The Nigerian midfielder picked out Jiménez inside the box, allowing the Mexican striker to control the ball on his chest before slotting a low shot past Brighton’s goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen.

The assist took Iwobi’s goal contribution for the season to eleven, with seven goals and four assists in 33 matches across all competitions.

However, Brighton responded just six minutes later when Jan Paul van Hecke powered a header into the net, capitalizing on poor marking from Fulham’s defense.

João Pedro secured the victory for the hosts in the final minutes of the game with a penalty. Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Boyd commended Iwobi’s delivery and Jiménez’s composed finish.

"It's a top finish. The ball from Iwobi is good but the finish is better. He chests the ball down before firing a left-footed strike into the back of the net," Boyd said on Sky Sports

Iwobi, who has been a standout performer for Fulham this season, was substituted in the 89th minute for Ryan Sessegnon.

His impressive form earned him a place in the Super Eagles’ 39-man squad for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
