Dessers takes season's tally to 21 in all competitions as Rangers lose to Motherwell

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers continued his fine scoring form but could not prevent Rangers from suffering a 2-1 defeat to Motherwell at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday evening.

This marked his third goal under new manager Barry Ferguson, signaling a resurgence in form after a difficult spell under Philippe Clement.

Dessers, who recently scored a brace in Rangers' 4-2 victory over Kilmarnock, was once again on target. However, his efforts were not enough to salvage points for his team.

Motherwell raced to a two-goal lead in the first half through goals from Luke Armstrong and Tom Sparrow, leaving Rangers with an uphill task after the break.

The Nigerian international pulled one back in the 54th minute, capitalizing on a failed clearance from Dan Casey at the edge of the box.

Dessers latched onto the loose ball and fired a powerful shot past goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe, who might have done better had he stood his ground instead of diving prematurely.

The goal took Dessers' tally to 21 in 42 appearances across all competitions this season, underlining his importance to the team.

However, the loss to Motherwell would have serious implications for Rangers' title challenge, potentially widening the gap between them and league leaders Celtic.

Despite the disappointing result, Dessers will be hoping his impressive form earns him a place in the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
