'He had ten offers' - Agent reveals why Dessers stayed put at Rangers despite significant interest

Stijn Francis, the agent of Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers, shed light on why the Super Eagles forward chose to remain at Rangers despite significant interest from several clubs during the winter transfer window.

Initially, Dessers appeared poised for a move away from Rangers after a series of lackluster performances led to him losing his spot in the starting lineup to Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane.

However, a remarkable turnaround came when Dessers scored a hat-trick in the Scottish Cup, followed by a goal in the UEFA Europa League against Manchester United, showcasing his potential and determination to reclaim his position.

Despite reported interest from Cagliari, Empoli, Leganes, the transfer market proved challenging, as clubs are unwilling to sign him permanently.

"There is still a lot of probing, but clubs are pushing much less. Look at Cyriel Dessers: he had ten offers, but the market is much more difficult at that time," Francis explained in an interview with Sporza via voetbalnieuws.

"Many wanted to rent him, but Rangers only wanted to sell. And that is not ideal for the player's focus

With eight goals and two assists in 22 league appearances this season, Dessers would aim to maintain his impressive form to aid Rangers in their quest for the league title and success in European competitions.

Additionally, the 30-year-old would hope his recent form will earn him a call-up for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March.
