Scottish champions Celtic in talks with Sevilla over loan deal for Super Eagles striker
Published: February 01, 2025Celtic have opened negotiations with Sevilla over a potential loan deal for Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho, according to Sky Sports News' Anthony Joseph.
Discussions are still at an early stage, but the Scottish champions are keen to bring the 28-year-old forward to Glasgow on an initial five-month loan with an option to buy.
The Hoops see Iheanacho as a possible replacement for Kyogo Furuhashi, who recently joined French side Rennes.
Iheanacho has struggled to make an impact since joining Sevilla on a free transfer from Leicester City last summer.
He has yet to score in nine La Liga appearances and could be open to a move away from Spain in search of more game time.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously worked with Iheanacho at Leicester, is believed to be a key factor in the club’s pursuit.
Earlier in January, Iheanacho turned down a move to Greek club Panathinaikos, preferring to wait for a more suitable offer.
His agent also dismissed reports linking him to Egyptian side Al-Ahly, insisting there was no contact.
With the transfer window deadline fast approaching, Celtic will look to accelerate talks in the coming days as they attempt to bolster their attacking options.
