'An all-rounder' - Italian coach advises Lazio coach to pair Dele-Bashiru with ex-Arsenal star in midfield
Published: January 22, 2025Italian manager Roberto Rambaudi has urged Lazio's head coach Marco Baroni to consider deploying Fisayo Dele-Bashiru in a midfield partnership with former Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi in Thursday's UEFA Europa League clash against Real Sociedad at the Stadio Olimpico.
Dele-Bashiru, who made the move to Lazio in the summer of 2024, has impressed in the competition so far, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in just four appearances.
His performances have been instrumental in Lazio's successful campaign, which has seen them top the group with 16 points from five wins and one draw in six games.
Rambaudi, speaking on Radiosei, expressed his admiration for Bashiru's versatility and ability to thrive in a two-man midfield setup. He further suggested that pairing Bashiru with Matteo Guendouzi in midfield could offer Lazio an edge, especially in a game requiring creativity and dynamism.
When asked about the possibility of featuring Dele-Bashiru and Mattéo Guendouzi in midfield, he was quoted as saying by Radiosei: "I like the idea. Dele has shown that he knows how to play in a two-man midfield. That way you have unpredictability and acceleration with the ball at your feet.
"I am more inclined to put him there when you have to play a proactive game and everyone is fine."
Rambaudi described Bashiru as an "all-rounder," emphasizing his knack for advancing into attacking positions, but he also pointed out a potential weakness in his game.
"He tends to go and look for positions up front, he is an all-rounder. When not in possession he sometimes disappears, you know, but he is a useful player," Rambaudi remarked.
With Lazio already through to the knockout stage of the tournament, experimenting with Dele-Bashiru in the base of midfield alongside Guendouzi could provide Baroni with another tactical tweak for the season.
