Atalanta boss shares one thing that impressed him about dirtiest player Lookman against Udinese
Published: January 11, 2025Statistically speaking, Ademola Lookman was the dirtiest player during Atalanta's goalless draw with Udinese in a Serie A meeting on Saturday afternoon.
Despite lasting 62 minutes on the pitch, the African Footballer of the Year committed three fouls, more than any other player on parade at the Bluenergy Stadium, and also made two tackles.
Lookman was involved in several defensive actions, committing fouls in the 9th and 18th minute on Martin Payero and Sandi Lovric respectively.
Additionally, the Atalanta number 11 gave away a free-kick for tripping Hassane Kamara five minutes into the second half.
The Nerazzurri battled to secure a draw, with former Arsenal standout Alexis Sánchez coming agonizingly close by striking both the post and the crossbar.
Manager Gian Piero Gasperini praised Lookman for his defensive contribution, even though Atalanta's overall performance was very disappointing.
Asked to rate the performances of Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere, Gasperini was quoted as saying by Eurosport: "
I am satisfied with the sacrifice of Lookman and De Ketelaere. They tried to do their best, even in defense.
"There are no criticisms to make about the commitment. We found a physical team that put us in difficulty."
Against six different teams—Bologna, Venezia, Monza, Udinese (twice), Roma and Cagliari—Lookman has failed to score or register an assist this season.
