Maresca reveals the one aspect of Iwobi's game that impressed him in Chelsea's loss to Fulham
Published: December 27, 2024Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has highlighted one aspect of Alex Iwobi's performance that impressed him during Fulham's 2-1 win over the Blues on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge.
Iwobi, who played 90 minutes before being replaced by Ryan Sessegnon in stoppage time, was instrumental in Fulham's success.
The Nigerian midfielder’s contribution was pivotal in the buildup to Harry Wilson's equalizer, a moment that shifted the game's momentum.
Iwobi won the ball back after Fulham lost possession and passed it to Robinson, who delivered a cross into the box.
Timothy Castagne then squared the ball across the goal, allowing Wilson to head it in at minute 82.
Speaking after the game, Maresca expressed disappointment in his players' game management but praised Iwobi's effectiveness during transitions.
"Yeah. It is exactly what I said to them. That we can manage the game better," Maresca told reporters.
"I think we conceded too many transitions in the second half. It is a team with Iwobi, Adama, Jimenez. They are very good in transition. And you have to control better. But it is a game that we can learn many things."
Iwobi has been a standout performer for Fulham this season, contributing five goals and three assists in 18 Premier League appearances.
His influence on the pitch has been a driving force behind Fulham's impressive form in the league.
This victory bolsters Fulham's position in the Premier League table while putting a dent on Chelsea's chance of competing for the Premier League title.
