Crystal Palace make transfer decision over winger who trained with Golden Eaglets in 2019
Published: December 28, 2024Premier League club Crystal Palace have reportedly made a transfer decision over 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei, few days before the opening of the January transfer window.
According to South London Press, Ebiowei is set to have his loan spell at Oxford United cut short when the window opens for business in January.
The 21-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the Championship club, making just four substitute appearances in the league since joining in August.
Ebiowei's lack of playing time has been a concern, and it appears that Crystal Palace has decided to intervene.
The young winger has started just once for Oxford United, playing for 77 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Coventry City in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
However, he has been absent from the squad since November 8, throwing his future into doubt.
Ebiowei's recall is not a surprise, given his limited involvement at Oxford United. The question now is what's next for the young winger, who still has a long-term contract with Crystal Palace until the end of the 2026-27 season.
Ebiowei joined the Eagles on a five-year deal from Derby County in the summer of 2022, but his progress has stalled since then.
His career has been marked by promise and potential, but he has yet to fulfill his early hype.
As a teenager, he impressed at Derby County, earning a move to Crystal Palace, but his loan spells at Hull City, RWD Molenbeek, and Oxford United have fallen short of expectations.
Ebiowei has represented both the Netherlands and England at the youth level and was named in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup after impressing during a training camp in Turkey.
