San Lorenzo rising star could spark international tug-of-war between Nigeria and Argentina
Published: December 23, 2024After River Plate's teenage goalscoring sensation Jonathan Spiff Asuzu, another Buenos Aires-born youngster, Joaquín Ebere Obiekezie could spark an international tug-of-war between Nigeria and Argentina in the future, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Born in Argentina sixteen years ago, Obiekezie qualifies to represent the Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles through his Nigerian father.
The talented goalkeeper plays for the youth team of CA San Lorenzo de Almagro, one of Argentina's 'big five' clubs, alongside Boca Juniors, Independiente, Racing Club and River Plate.
This season, he has appeared in twenty-six matches for the youth team of CA San Lorenzo de Almagro.
The Argentine Football Association are closely tracking his development at San Lorenzo and are likely to push for his international commitment if he maintains his standout performances.
Not only was he born in Argentina, but his strong link to the South American giants is also evident in his impeccable Spanish.
Obiekezie is focused on improving his craft while keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
Whether he picks Nigeria or Argentina, it is clear that the promising goalkeeper is destined for greatness.
