'We are one of the best at scoring' - Tosin admits Chelsea faced a defensively solid Everton side
Published: December 22, 2024Chelsea missed the chance to go top of the Premier League table after a goalless draw with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.
With 37 goals in 17 games, the Blues are statistically the most potent attacking team in the English top division, while the Toffees rank as the second-strongest defensive side among teams outside the top four.
Everton have managed seven clean sheets in their last ten Premier League matches, including scoreless draws against Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United.
Nicolas Jackson came close for Chelsea in the first half, rattling the post and forcing a superb save from Everton's England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
Nigerian central defender Tosin Adarabioyo's brilliant block prevented Iliman Ndiaye from capitalizing on a loose ball in the six-yard box.
Speaking post-match, Tosin admitted that Everton were a tough nut to crack and praised them for their defensive solidity.
However, he suggested that the game was played in unfavorable conditions, particularly in the first half.
Tosin said on Premier League Productions, via the BBC: "It was very difficult. Everton are one of the best teams at keeping clean sheets and we are one of the best at scoring.
"The first half was very difficult with the weather but we showed fighting spirit. We are having a good run and are full of confidence. We will keep on pushing."
Against Everton, Tosin started back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since his summer move to Chelsea.
With Chelsea dropping points at Everton, Liverpool are guaranteed to be top of the Premier League table at Christmas, regardless of the result of their match at Tottenham Hotspur.
