'It's not like us' - Rohr reveals the one advantage Super Eagles have over Cheetahs in Afconq
Published: November 12, 2024Benin manager Gernot Rohr has pointed out one advantage the Super Eagles have over the Cheetahs in the race for Africa Cup of Nations qualification.
Heading into matchday five of the 2025 Afcon qualifiers, Nigeria are leading Group D with ten points, followed by Benin who have accumulated six points from four games, while the Wasps of Rwanda have five points.
Benin are forced to play their home games in a neutral venue after the Confederation of African Football ruled that their stadiums are substandard.
The Benin Football Federation adopted the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan as their home ground for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Among the three countries with a realistic chance of advancing from Group D—Nigeria, Benin, and Rwanda—only the Cheetahs won't have home advantage for their final two games, Rohr has emphasized.
Speaking on the situation in Group D, Rohr was quoted as saying by Mega Sports: "In our group, the three countries that are with us have all had the chance to be able to play at home.
"It's not like us who have to go to neutral ground. Up until now, it has given us the chance to play in Abidjan and we will want to continue.
"But I think it will be decided in the last match in Libya in Tripoli. We will be ready for that and we will do everything obviously, especially with our state of mind, with players who have found a bit of rhythm in the club, to be at the next Afcon in Morocco."
As part of their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Super Eagles, the Cheetahs held their first training session in Abidjan on Monday, with almost all the invited players in attendance.
Benin will take on Nigeria at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Thursday, with kickoff scheduled for 2000 hours.
