Ex-Super Eagles star in Ipswich dugout as Blues beat Tottenham to record first PL win in 22 years

Former Super Eagles star Sone Aluko was in the Ipswich Town dugout as the Blues beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon to record their first victory in the English top-flight in 22 years.

The retired forward spent three years with the Tractor Boys as a player, making 62 appearances for the club and registering four goals and two assists before announcing his retirement at the end of the 2023-2024 campaign.

Aluko, who joined Kieran McKenna's backroom staff as a first team coach in July, was caught on camera celebrating Ipswich Town's win over Tottenham Hotspur, shortly after the referee blew for fulltime.

Sammie Szmodics gave the away side the lead with a spectacular effort, beating Guglielmo Vicario with a scissors kick.

Two minutes before half-time, Liam Delap put Ipswich in dreamland, putting the ball home from a rebound to score his sixth of the campaign.

Dominic Solanke thought he had reduced the deficit four minutes after the restart when he riffled the ball into the net, but the VAR spotted a handball in the build-up, which culminated in the goal being disallowed.

Rodrigo Bentancur eventually pulled one back for Spurs, heading the ball home from Pedro Porro's cross but the home side were unable to stage a comeback as the Blues held on for their first victory of the campaign.
