Published: October 26, 2024
Nigeria secured a 2-0 win against Algeria in a friendly match held at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
Coach Justin Magudu made several adjustments to the regular lineup, with only Rasheedat Ajibade and Chiamaka Nnadozie among the usual starters.
In the 24th minute, captain Ajibade opened the scoring with a superb finish, later doubling the lead with a stunning strike just before halftime.
Allnigeriasoccer.com presents five observations from the game.
Delayed Kickoff
The match between both nations was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Remo Stars Stadium.
However, the game did not start as planned, with the official kickoff occurring approximately ten minutes after the scheduled time.
Despite the delay, Nigeria secured a comfortable victory over their North African opponent.
Coach Justin Magudu Shines Again, Implements Key Lineup Changes
With Coach Justin Magudu now leading the Super Falcons following Randy Waldrum's resignation, he has continued to impress.
Previously, Magudu's interim leadership had shown promise as Waldrum was in contract discussions with the Nigeria Football Federation.
In this second stint, Magudu kicked off with a strong and comfortable victory for Nigeria. He made several lineup changes, featuring only regular starters Chiamaka Nnadozie and Oluwatosin Demehin.
The rest of the lineup included fringe squad members, former junior internationals, and local league players, showcasing the depth of talent within the squad.
Decisive and Clinical First-Half Display from Falcons
The Super Falcons showcased a decisive and clinical first-half performance to secure a win over Algeria in Ikenne.
Several changes to the usual lineup affected the team's flow and coordination, and at times Nigeria struggled with passing and player cohesion—understandably due to the adjustments.
Despite these challenges, Nigeria remained clinical, with Ajibade netting two impressive goals. In the second half, the Falcons improved their possession control but were unable to add to their lead.
Rasheedat Ajibade and Demehin Shine in Victory Over Algeria
Rasheedat Ajibade and Oluwatosin Demehin delivered standout performances for Nigeria in their win over Algeria.
The Super Falcons captain scored twice in the first half, while Demehin contributed an assist for Ajibade's opening goal.
Beyond her assist, Demehin was defensively solid and played a crucial role in Nigeria's buildup play from the back.
Algeria Struggles to Threaten Nigeria in Comfortable Win
Nigeria cruised to a comfortable victory over Algeria, with both goals scored by Rasheedat Ajibade.
Throughout the game, Algeria posed little threat, creating few opportunities and allowing the Super Falcons to dominate.
Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie remained largely untested, making no significant save during the game.
