Eric Chelle receives good news on Galatasaray's Osimhen ahead of Nigeria squad announcement
Published: February 26, 2025
Eric Chelle has received positive news from Turkey on marquee center forward Victor Osimhen ahead of his first squad announcement as Nigeria coach.
The Napoli loanee was forced off due to injury in the closing minutes of Monday evening's Intercontinental Derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.
He was replaced in the 89th minute, making way for Kaan Ayhan as the Istanbul rivals played out a goalless draw in a Turkish Super Lig matchday 25 encounter at Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi RAMS Park.
Initially, there were concerns that the injury sustained by the former African Footballer of the Year was serious, but tests conducted by Galatasaray's medical team showed otherwise.
According to Turkish media outlet habersarikirmizi.com, an MRI confirmed that Osimhen was in good condition and free of a major injury.
However, the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner was not spotted in any of the training images posted by Galatasaray on the official website and social media channels on Tuesday, February 25.
Galatasaray have started preparations for the match against Tümosan Konyaspor in the Ziraat Turkish Cup, with a training session held at Florya Metin Oktay Facilities yesterday.
Whether Osimhen will feature in Thursday’s game at RAMS Park or be rested is still uncertain.
The 26-year-old has not represented Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup, missing games against Basaksehir and Boluspor.
