Chelsea, Liverpool starlets among 7 Nigerians in contention to be provisionally cap-tied to England in October
Published: October 18, 2024England head coach Neil Ryan has named his squad for this month's 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifiers in Malta.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can report that seven talented players of Nigerian descent on the books of Premier League clubs are in contention to be provisionally cap-tied to England in October following their inclusion in the 21-man squad announced by the English Football Association at 1400 hours on Friday.
Landon Emenalo, son of Nigeria's 1994 World Cup star Michael Emenalo, Chizaram Ezenwata who is the son of former Gombe United star Ndubuisi Ezenwata, Aston Villa's Owen Asemota, West Ham United trio Lanre Awesu, Chinaza Nwosu and Andre Dike, plus Liverpool teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha have all been called up for the U17 Euro qualifiers.
The aforementioned players would need to file a one-time change of association to represent the Nigeria national teams if they participate in any of the games this month.
The 2017 world champions will face Malta on October 24, followed by games against Latvia on October 27 and Sweden on October 30.
Emenalo is a surprise addition to the England roster as the tri-national midfielder flirted with his country of birth, United States in recent months, making appearances for the U17s in September.
Another tri-national player in the squad is Emenalo's Chelsea teammate Ezenwata, who is also eligible for the national team of Cameroon though his mother.
Chizzy's dad had previously indicated that he wanted the striker to prioritize playing for Nigeria at international level.
The English Football Association provisionally cap-tied Arsenal duo Chiemela Ude and Omotara Junaid, and Manchester City forward Jane Oboavwoduo in 2024, with the trio playing in competitive matches for the Young Lionesses.
