Bameyi, Igboke, Agada named in Flying Eagles squad for WAFU Zone B U20 Cup of Nations; Daga replaced
Published: October 15, 2024
Twenty players have been selected to represent Nigeria at the upcoming WAFU Zone B U20 tournament in Togo, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Flying Eagles, under the guidance of coach Aliyu Zubairu, are set to compete against Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire in Group B, while Group A features Togo, Benin Republic, and Niger Republic.
Preparations for the tournament began in Abuja before the team moved to the Remo Sports Institute in Ikenne, Ogun State. During their stay, they engaged in test matches to fine-tune their tactics, including a 4-1 victory over Seamorrow FC.
Coach Zubairu has now finalized his 20-man squad, which comprises two goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders, and six forwards.
The roster is headlined by Bayelsa United's Daniel Bameyi, Rangers defender Kenneth Igboke and Mavlon FC forward Charles Agada.
2023 Fifa U20 World Cup star Daniel Daga, with passport number B02372097, was initially included in the squad list forwarded to CAF but the Enyimba midfielder has been replaced by Muhammad Sabiu Ibrahim.
Daga cannot feature in the tournament because his Nigerian passport is with the Norwegian embassy.
The Flying Eagles' opening match will be against Burkina Faso at the Municipal Stadium in Lome on Friday, October 18, at 3 pm local time. They will then face Cote d’Ivoire three days later at the same venue.
The tournament kicks off on Thursday, October 17, with Togo taking on Niger Republic at the Kegue Stadium. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
