'Help me call my grandmother, this is sick' - Boniface reacts to poor treatment of Super Eagles in Libya
Published: October 14, 2024
In a series of posts on X, Victor Boniface has reacted to the treatment being meted to the Super Eagles players by the Libyan authorities ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Mediterranean Knights on Tuesday evening.
The Nigerian team are currently stranded at the Abraq International Airport in Libya, thereby frustrating their plans to prepare for tomorrow's fixture at the Benina Martyrs Stadium.
The Super Eagles had beaten the Mediterranean Knights on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium by a solitary goal but the Northern Africa side claimed they were not treated properly before the game but the allegation was debunked by the Nigeria Football Federation.
The alleged maltreatment may have informed the rough handling being handed to the Nigerian contingent, which has put uncertainty around tomorrow's fixture.
In a number of posts on his X account, Boniface has narrated their ordeal at the hands of the Libyan authorities, though he has stated that he is in a fine condition.
"Help me call my grandmother say her grandson Dey ok. Nah this is sick," Boniface posted.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker described their condition in his first post, then in pidgin language revealed that he was fine before sharing videos of the poor buses that have been given to them by the Libyan authorities.
It remains to be seen what the NFF and, most importantly, the Confederation of African Football will decide on the fate of tomorrow's fixture.
