'The more you are performing' - La Liga top dribbler Ejuke happy to be back in Super Eagles fold
Published: October 10, 2024
Sevilla dazzler Chidera Ejuke is delighted to get another chance with the Nigeria national team after more than two years in the international wilderness.
The former CSKA Moscow forward is back in the fold, twenty five months after he was a non-playing substitute against Algeria in an international friendly.
Nigeria's interim manager Augustine Eguavoen has recognized Ejuke's recent impressive performances for Sevilla by handing him a call-up for the double header against Libya's Mediterranean Knights.
The 26-year-old has earned accolades from fans and pundits alike for his dribbling skills since joining Sevilla on a free transfer from CKSA Moscow in the summer window.
He is La Liga's stat leader for dribbles completed, registering 28 across eight games to place first ahead of Ballon d'Or 2024 nominees Lamine Yamal (27), Kylian Mbappé (23) and Vinícius Júnior (20).
Speaking to NFF TV, Ejuke said: "I'm just happy to be honest, I'm really excited to be back. It's always like a good feeling to get the opportunity to represent your country, but also to see some colleagues you haven't seen in a while, it's also really nice.
"The more you are performing, the more you get this kind of opportunity. I always had a good time, the experience has always been good with the national team. Games I have opportunity to play have always been nice.
"I always love representing the country. Whenever I get the opportunity I just want to do my best and enjoy football.
"We'll go out there and give our best, and hopefully get the three points and at the end we also urge the fans to be behind us, to support us in every situation."
Ejuke has played mostly as a left winger for club and country, meaning it is all but confirmed that he will start on the bench against Libya on Friday evening, with in-form Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman one of the first names on the team sheet and ahead of him in Eguavoen's pecking order of inverted wingers.
