All present and correct: 23 players in camp as Osayi-Samuel reports for Nigeria duty ahead of 6pm workout
Published: October 10, 2024
Fenerbahce fullback Bright Osayi-Samuel has seemingly ended speculation about his fitness by reporting for international duty in Uyo, a day before the Super Eagles do battle with Libya's Mediterranean Knights in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
There were worries that Osayi-Samuel would miss the October internationals as reports from Turkey indicated he was nursing an ankle injury sustained during Fenerbahce's Europa League clash against Union Saint-Gilloise on September 26.
Jose Mourinho omitted the Nigeria national teamer from the travelling squad to Antalyaspor, Fenerbahce's last game in the Super Lig before the international break.
With Osayi-Samuel joining the camp, Nigeria's interim manager Augustine Eguavoen now has a complete squad of twenty-three players, as all the players selected for the double-header have now gathered in Uyo.
Eguavoen will monitor the defender at close quarters in the final workout on Thursday evening before making a decision whether to include him in the gameday squad to face the Libyans.
Thursday's training is scheduled to begin at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium at 1800 hours, with the first fifteen minutes of the training open to the media.
Eguavoen and a nominated player will address the media at the pre-match press conference before the start of this evening's workout.
Osayi-Samuel is back in the Super Eagles fold after his late withdrawal from the squad for the Afcon qualifiers with Benin's Cheetahs and Rwanda's Wasps last month.
