Solanke gets off the mark for Tottenham Hotspur in win against Brentford
Published: September 21, 2024Dominic Solanke opened his goalscoring account for Tottenham Hotspur when they defeated Brentford 3-1 in the Premier League fixture played on Saturday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Brentford got off to a flying start as Bryan Mbeumo gave the away side the lead less than a minute into the start of the match, volleying Keane Lewis-Potter's cross past Guglielmo Vicario.
Solanke put Spurs back on level terms in the 8th minute, firing the ball home after James Maddison's shot got blocked to douse the attention at N17.
Brennan Johnson gave the home side the lead in the 28th minute, putting his left strike into the back of the net, courtesy of an assist from skipper Son Heung-Min.
James Maddison sealed the victory for Ange Postecoglou's side, flipping the ball over the Bees goalkeeper Mark Flekken to put the game beyond the reach of the away side.
With the victory sealed, Postecoglou brought off Solanke in the 88th minute, with Mikey Moore coming on as a replacement.
The 27-year-old must be glad to have scored his first goal for Spurs after coming under heavy criticism after the north London Derby last weekend.
The Cobham Academy product joined the Lilywhites for a club-record fee in the last transfer window and it is no surprise that his performance is coming under heavy scrutiny.
