The Super Eagles of Nigeria have maintained their position in the latest Coca Cola Men’s FIFA Rankings for September, despite their recent performances in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
In their opening matches of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers held in September, Nigeria secured four points.
The team delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over Benin at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium and followed up with a goalless draw against Rwanda in Kigali.
However, these results have not significantly impacted Nigeria’s FIFA ranking. The Super Eagles experienced a slight decline of -0.91 points, dropping from 1498.93 to 1498.02 points.
Despite this minor decrease, the Super Eagles remain the sixth-best footballing nation in Africa and positioned 39th globally.,
They trail behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Côte d'Ivoire, and Tunisia in the continental rankings.
In the broader global context, Argentina, France, Spain, England, Brazil, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy occupy the top ten spots.
On the African continent, Algeria, Cameroon, Mali, and the Democratic Republic of Congo round out the top ten.
Looking ahead, Nigeria has the opportunity to improve its standing in the next FIFA rankings, set to be released on October 24, 2024.
To enhance their position, the Super Eagles will need to secure positive results in their upcoming double-header against Libya in October as the 2025 AFCON qualifier tournament continues.
