Tosin makes first Premier League appearance for Chelsea in history-making game against Bournemouth
Published: September 14, 2024London-born Nigerian central defender Tosin Adarabioyo has made his first appearance for Chelsea in the Premier League.
The Manchester City academy product played the full ninety minutes in both legs of the UEFA Conference League encounter against Servette FC in August.
After being an unused substitute in the opening three games of the new Premier League season, the summer signing from Fulham hopped off the bench to replace Axel Disasi in the 62nd minute of the 1-0 win against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Chelsea boss has opted for Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana as his preferred center-back duo, with Tosin relegated to the bench.
With the game evenly poised, Maresca made a double substitution, bringing on Joao Felix and Tosin Adarabioyo as replacement for Axel Disasi and Noni Madueke respectively.
Two other substitutes Christopher Nkunku and Jadon Sancho decided the outcome of the game, with the Frenchman netting the winning goal at minute 86 after a delivery from the Manchester United loanee.
History was made at the Vitality Stadium as fourteen players were booked by referee Anthony Taylor - the most in a single game in Premier League history.
Adam Smith, Marcos Senesi, Lewis Cook, Ryan Christie, Antoine Semenyo and Justin Kluivert were the Cherries players booked, while eight Chelsea players were cautioned namely Robert Sánchez, Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Renato Veiga, Nicolas Jackson, João Félix and Jadon Sancho.
Prior to the match between Bournemouth and Chelsea, the record for the most yellow cards in a Premier League game was twelve, set in the Chelsea versus Tottenham Hotspur game in May 2016.
Tosin has played three matches for Chelsea, with the team keeping clean sheets in two of those appearances.
