Talented centre-back of Nigerian descent cap-tied to Faroe Islands after featuring in UEFA Nations League
Published: September 13, 2024
Promising central defender of Nigerian descent Samuel Johansen Chukwudi is now cap-tied to his country of birth Faroe Islands after representing them in a competitive fixture in the first international break of the 2024-2025 season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
By starting against North Macedonia in a UEFA Nations League tie on September 7, Chukwudi became permanently cap-tied to the Island Nation and is no longer eligible to play for the Super Eagles in the future, provided his Faroese citizenship is not revoked.
Born on June 25, 2003 in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands, Chukwudi was previously eligible to represent the Super Eagles through his Nigerian father.
The centre-back appeared in three friendly matches for the Faroe Islanders, against Czech Republic, Kosovo and Estonia, before his first competitive match for the European nation.
Three days after his competitive debut for Landsliðið, he went the distance in another UEFA Nations League encounter against Latvia, taking his total appearances for the national team to five.
The HB Tórshavn star spent a portion of the 2022-2023 season on loan at Belgian outfit Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, where he made nine appearances for the U23 team in the 2de Nationale ACFF.
Chukwudi has played in 68 games for the first team of HB Tórshavn, scoring two goals.
