Done deal: Super Eagles midfielder Bonke departs Lorient for Adanaspor
Published: September 12, 2024With a statement on their official website, Turkish First League club Adanaspor have announced the acquisition of Nigeria national teamer Bonke Innocent from French Ligue 2 outfit FC Lorient.
A defensive midfielder by trade, Bonke has signed a contract with Adanaspor until June 30, 2024, with a club option for the 2025-2026 season.
The 28-year-old did not play a single game for Lorient in the new season amid speculation surrounding his future.
He joined Lorient as a free agent in January 2022 and has departed the club after making 42 appearances in all competitions, including 41 in the French top flight.
He started his career with Bujoc FC, followed by spells at Moderate Stars, Lillestrom, Malmö and Lorient.
Since moving to Europe in August 2014, Bonke has played in 195 games combined for the aforementioned clubs, scoring just once in a Norwegian Cup clash against Ullensaker/Kisa in May 2017 while wearing the colours of Lillestrom.
Of his 195 appearances, twenty-seven were in Europe comprising 10 in the Champions League qualifiers, 6 in the Champions League, 6 in the Europa League and 5 in the Europa League qualifiers.
On the international stage, he made his Super Eagles debut in a 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Cape Verde in September 2021, followed by three additional appearances.
Bonke has not been called up to the Super Eagles since a friendly against Mexico in May 2022.
