Former QPR and Leicester manager eyes reunion with Super Eagles CB Troost-Ekong at Shabab Al-Ahli
Published: August 04, 2024Former Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers manager Paulo Sousa is eyeing a reunion with Super Eagles assistant captain William Troost-Ekong at UAE Pro League club Shabab Al Ahli Club this summer.
The PAOK central defender was previously linked with a departure from Greece before the transfer window closes, with at least three unnamed teams in Saudi Arabia monitoring his situation.
According to Gazzetta Greece, there is a new suitor in the form of Shabab Al-Ahli, who who are offering money to PAOK to sign the experienced defender.
Shabab Al-Ahli have been trying to sign the Tottenham Hotspur academy product since the opening of the transfer window.
The eight-time UAE Pro League champions are willing to make an offer of one million euros to sign Troost-Ekong, same amount the Greek champions paid Watford to acquire the Nigerian last summer.
Paulo Sousa sees Troost-Ekong as an important addition to his side and wants to bring him to the United Arab Emirates.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Most Valuable Player played under the Portuguese football tactician at Italian club
Salernitana in the second half of the 2022-2023 season, where he scored one goal in six matches in the Serie A.
Troost-Ekong has returned to full fitness after missing majority of the second half of last season due to an injury he sustained at the Africa Cup of Nations.
The former Groningen, Gent, Bursaspor and Udinese man has two more years left on his contract at PAOK.
