'Of course, there is fatigue' - Japan coach Futoshi Ikeda admits ahead of showdown against Super Falcons

Japan women's national team coach Futoshi Ikeda has admitted that fatigue has started taking its toll ahead of his side's crucial 2024 Olympic Games Group C clash with Nigeria at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Nantes on Wednesday afternoon.

Futoshi Ikeda acknowledged that his staff and players are fatigued with only two rest days in between matches at the 2024 Olympic Games.

It should come as no surprise that the Japanese, and probably the Super Falcons, are fatigued heading into the final round of matches in the group, given that only six outfield players can be named on the substitutes players and the extremely busy schedule.

The Super Falcons lost 1-0 to Brazil in their opening match in Group C and put up a great defensive showing for the ages in their encounter with world champions Spain, only to concede in the 85th minute.

Nadeshiko Japan lost their first match against the Spanish women's national team and came back to win their second match against Brazil.

Speaking to reporters on the eve of the clash with Nigeria, Ikeda stated: "Of course, there is fatigue, or rather, the fact that it is the third match with only two days in between, and we have fought, but we have recovered well and traveled.

"We are used to that rhythm, so we were able to use the two days properly as usual and prepare well."

With victory an absolute must for Nigeria to advance, it is likely that manager Randy Waldrum will take risks in attack and the game will become more open, so it is time for the Super Falcons forwards to deliver the goods.
