Ghana and Nigeria-eligible defender departs Chelsea to join EFL club on scholarship deal
Published: July 13, 2024EFL League One club Peterborough United have not yet revealed the academy scholars ahead of the U18 Professional Development League season.
As first reported by Chelsea youth team guru TheChels.net, allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm that tri-national defender Davon Gbajumo has departed Chelsea's Cobham academy for Peterborough United.
Davon is uncapped at international level but eligible to represent the national teams of England, Nigeria and Ghana.
Aged 16, Gbajumo's new contract will keep him at the Posh until at least the end of the 2025-2026 season.
He has already made his competitive debut for Peterborough United U18s,having played against West Brom and Everton in last season's U18 Premier League Cup.and also featured in the FA Youth Cup.
Gbajumo had stops at Levels FC and Arsenal before his move to Chelsea.
A left-footed footballer, he can play a variety of positions in defense and is equally renowned for his central midfield abilities.
Gbajumo started for Peterborugh United U21 side in their goalless draw against non-league opponents Wingate & Finchley in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, July 13.
