Joseph Olowu: Arsenal youth product, who has pledged his future to Nigeria, named in League Two TOTW
Published: November 26, 2024
Joseph Olowu has been recognized for his outstanding performance in the last round of matches in the League Two, with football statistics website Whoscored naming the central defender in its Team of the Week.
Born in Ibadan, Olowu was on the books of Premier League club Arsenal for eight years before joining Doncaster Rovers in 2021.
The 24-year-old has pledged his international future to Nigeria instead of England and travelled to Poland for talks with the officials of the Nigeria Football Federation during the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup.
Olowu impressed as Doncaster Rovers forced Carlisle United to a goalless draw at Brunton Park on Saturday, helping Chelsea loanee Teddy Sharman-Lowe post his seventh clean sheet of the season.
Olowu secured his second consecutive WhoScored.com Player of the Match award after Doncaster's 0-0 draw against Carlisle over the weekend.
He delivered a commanding defensive performance, contributing six clearances, four tackles, and two interceptions to ensure a clean sheet.
In a 3-5-2 setup, Olowu lines up in central defense alongside Sam Stubbs (Cheltenham Town) and Anthony O’Connor (Harrogate).
The former Arsenal U18 skipper has appeared in 123 matches for Doncaster Rovers since his debut, tallying six goals and three assists.
