Talented Nigerian defender who can play across various positions signs new Chelsea deal
Published: July 12, 2024As published on their official website, Chelsea have announced that Nigerian defender Olutayo Subuloye is one of their first year scholars for the 2024-2025 season.
Subuloye has been described as a talented defender who is comfortable playing across various positions and adapts well to any intense situation.
The west London club have also organized a gala event to celebrate their new set of scholars with Levi Colwill welcoming the new scholars to their signing event at Stamford Bridge last week.
Subuloye plays as a center-back and was the captain of the U16s last season before being handed his U18 debut last February by Nigerian coach Hassan Sulaiman during a league game against Aston Villa at the Cobham Training Centre.
He made four appearances for Sulaimon's side as they went on to win the U18 Premier League southern secton.
Despite interest from several clubs, Subuloye has agreed to sign his first professional contract with the club when he turns 17.
He is set to join the U18s this weekend as they travel to Portugal for their traditional pre-season training camp where the youngsters will play a friendly game before heading back to England.
Harry McGlinchey, Harry Rodda, Hudson Sands, Jack Austin, Joseph Wheeler-Henry, Kobe Barbour, Landon Emenalo, Shumaira Mheuka, Sol Gordon and Yahya Idrissi have also signed scholarship deals with Chelsea.
