After Osimhen and Michael Olise, Chelsea pull out of race to sign another Nigerian forward

According to Spanish sports daily Marca, Chelsea have pulled out of the race to sign Spanish-born Nigerian striker Samu Omorodion.

After reports confirming their decision not to pursue a deal for Super Eagle striker Victor Osimhen, the Blues set their sights on younger forwards like Omorodion.

Last month, Chelsea  withdrew from the race to sign another forward of Nigerian descent Michael Olise as they felt that striking a deal for him would push them beyond their financial limits.

The Londoners made a offer of 33 million euros plus seven in variables for Omorodion which got rejected by Atletico Madrid, who are determined to keep him.

There have been reports suggesting that the London-based club still retain an interest in Omorodion but with Atletico Madrid not showing any sign of selling the 20-year-old, they have decided to look elsewhere.

Chelsea are now said to be focused on signing cap-tied Germany international of Nigerian descent Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund and Lille forward Jonathan David.

Diego Simeone wants Omorodion to be an integral member of the first team next season after impressing in his loan spell with Deportivo Alavés.

There is a vacuum to be filled by the young striker after Memphis Depay's departure as a free agent last month and with Álvaro Morata being linked with a move away from the club.

Omorodion has been named in the Spain team for the 2024 Paris Olympics which means Simeone will be unable to count on him during the pre-season fixtures.
