Official: Son of former Super Eagles striker signs new contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers

Through a statement on their official website, Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced the new intake of academy scholars ahead of the start of the 2024-2025 season.

Allnigeriasoccer.com reported twelve days ago that Wesley Okoduwa, the son of German-based retired Nigeria international striker Emmanuel Okoduwa, was set to extend his stay at Wolverhampton Wanderers by signing a new contract.

Wolves have fended off interest from Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United to retain the talented defender.

The Molineux outfit have confirmed that Okoduwa is one of fourteen teenagers to have signed scholarship deals with the club.

The other youngsters are: Emilio Ballard-Matthews, Reiss Bowen, Ryan Colesby, Myles Dayman, Josh Gidaree, Josh Gracey, Mateus Mane, Bjorn Marwa, David Osifo, Luke Rawlings, Max Ruddock, Alfie White and Jake Wilcox.

Okoduwa will be aiming to sign his first professional contract before the end of his scholarship agreement on June 30, 2026.

Wolves Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett describes Okoduwa as an outstanding athletic defender and his qualities are defensive one v one situations, getting close to people, and poses attacking qualities in the opposition half as well.

He joined Wolves at U15 level after he was recommended by one of the club's local scouts, and was a wide midfielder before he transitioned to be a right-back at under-15s and has also played a lot at left-back.

Okoduwa was named as a substitute on five occasions in the Premier League last term, showing the high regard the academy and first team coaches have for him.
