Asking price learned: Chelsea have to break transfer record held by Christian Pulisic to sign Omorodion
Published: July 06, 2024Premier League giants Chelsea have learned the asking price for Spanish-born Nigerian striker Samuel Omorodion who has been likened to former Blues icon Diego Costa.
According to The Sun UK, Chelsea will have to fork out at least 70 million pounds (approximately €80 million) to sign the Atletico Madrid starlet.
The Blues have already submitted a bid of 42m pounds to sign Omorodion but Atletico Madrid responded negatively.
Chelsea may have to break the club's transfer record to sign the 20-year-old Spanish-Nigerian player.
The most expensive 20-year-old signed by Chelsea is United States international Christian Pulisic who arrived at the Londoners from Borussia Dortmund in exchange for €64m, which is €16 million lower than Omorodion's valuation.
Omorodion has caught the attention of Chelsea owners and recruitment team, led by Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, as he fits the club's profile of a highly talented youngster with great potential.
The 20-year-old started last season in the best possible way, scoring on his La Liga debut for Granada against Atlético Madrid, and was signed by the latter before heading out on loan to Deportivo Alavés.
Despite failing to score or assist in his last twelve league games, he has done enough to impress Chelsea, having netted nine goals in his first 23 matches in the division.
Omorodion, who has been named in Spain's squad for the 2024 Olympic Games, has a contract with Los Rojiblancos until the end of the 2027-2028 season.
Chelsea have already signed a Nigerian player in the ongoing transfer window, with Tosin Adarabioyo joining the two-time European champions on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Fulham.
