Here we go, soon: Leicester City on brink of N25b deal to sign Italian-Nigerian central defender
Published: July 04, 2024Italian-Nigerian defender Caleb Okoli has agreed a move to Premier League side Leicester City for a fee of 15 million euros (approximately N25 billion in Nigerian currency) with an announcement to take place soon.
As revealed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the centre-back is set to become the Foxes' first signing under new boss Steve Cooper.
The 22-year-old will be joining from Atalanta where he has been since the summer of 2015 but has struggled to break into the first team and as a result been on different loan spells.
His first loan spell was with another Italian side SPAL in the 2020/2021 campaign, where he couldn't make it into the starting lineup till the second half of the season and eventually recorded 19 appearances across all competitions.
He embarked on another loan with Cremonese the following season and featured in 28 games, all of which were as a starter.
The Italian-born defender made a giant leap in his career last term with Frosinone, featuring in the Serie A regularly, making 32 league starts and also starting all three games played by Yellow and Blues in the Coppa Italia.
He has made only 17 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta and is now set to leave the club for Leicester City after failing to secure regular playing time.
