Future of Arsenal's teenage Nigerian GK yet to be resolved amid Chelsea, Spurs, Man City, Man Utd interest
Published: June 20, 2024Apart from popular striker Chido Obi-Martin, English Premier League club Arsenal are also struggling to keep hold of another talented academy player of Nigerian descent, Owen Asemota ahead of the forthcoming season, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
Asemota, an England U16 international, has just ten days left before his schoolboy registration with the Gunners expires.
Arsenal have offered the talented goalkeeper a scholarship ahead of the 2024-2025 campaign but but nothing has been agreed yet, leaving his future uncertain.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are monitoring the situation of the promising goalkeeper with a view to signing him this summer.
Arsenal would be entitled to compensation if Asemota leaves on a free transfer since he was offered a new contract and is an U24 player.
The 16-year-old is highly thought of by Arsenal's coaching staff and has been invited to train with the first team.
In his final season as a schoolboy, he made his competitive debut in the U18 Premier League against West Brom and went on to play in two more games in the division.
Arsenal have already bid farewell to two Hale End Academy graduates of Nigerian descent, Arthur Okonkwo and Ovie Ejeheri, with the two goalkeepers set to depart the Emirates Stadium for good at the end of this month.
