Tottenham, Inter Milan learn asking price for youngest ever Nigerian to score in UEFA Champions League
Published: May 07, 2024English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and Italian Serie A champions Inter Milan have learned the asking price for Royal Antwerp's Lagos-born striker George Ilenikhena.
Last December after scoring against Barcelona, Ilenikhena entered into the history books as the youngest ever Nigerian-born player to score in the UEFA Champions League, aged 17 years and 119 days, breaking Obafemi Martins' record that stood for more than twenty years.
According to Voetbalkrant, Royal Antwerp are reportedly ready to sell Ilenikhena as they want to raise funds to finance their summer plans and are demanding at least €20m from interested clubs.
The report states that Spurs have him high on their wishlist as they seek to sign a striker in the summer, with the club yet to replace Harry Kane.
Brazil international Richarlison has served as the main center forward all season and while Heung Min Son whose preferred role is the left wing has also played in that position.
Thus, it is unsurprising that Ange Postecoglou's side want a new striker in the summer and Ilenikhena appears to have caught their interest after a decent season in Belgium.
The north London club will now have to see off competition from newly crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan to win the signature of the talented striker.
Manager Mark van Bommel has preferred Vincent Janssen over the 17-year-old as the latter has started just nine league games all season.
With Ilenikhena's inability to break into the starting lineup, it will not be surprising to see him opting for a move away from Royal Antwerp when the transfer window opens.
