Royale Union Saint-Gilloise honorary president reveals price tag for Victor Boniface
Published: April 12, 2023Jürgen Baatzsch, Honorary President of Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, has highlighted that the Jupiler Pro League side sign players based on their playing stats.
The spotlight will be on Nigerian striker Victor Boniface on Thursday evening when Royale Union Saint-Gilloise take on Bayer Leverkusen in a Europa League quarterfinal clash at the BayArena, Leverkusen.
Boniface caused many problems for another German Bundesliga club Union Berlin in the round of sixteen.
Boniface joined Union SG from Bodø/Glimt in August 2022 for a fee of two million euros, and he's one of the main reasons for Les Unionistes' successful season.
The Brussels based club are second in the Jupiler Pro League and are in the Europa League quarterfinals, with the Nigerian directly participating in 23 goals from 41 appearances in all competitions.
Boniface's price tag has increased after putting himself in the shop window, and clubs interested in signing him in the summer have to pay at least ten million euros, according to Baatzsch.
"We take players because they have good stats. For example Victor Boniface. He came last summer for a fee of two million euros," Baatzsch said to German daily newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau.
"He is now worth 10 to 15 million. It's great when you see our success."
Boniface, 22, is attracting interest from clubs in France, England, Germany and Spain ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
If the Nigerian is bought for at least ten million euros, he will break Royale Union Saint-Gilloise's transfer record for an outbound transfer set by Deniz Undav when he left to join Premier League side Brighton & Hove in January 2022.
