Iwobi, Osayi-Samuel send messages to Arsenal legend Ozil after his retirement

Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Bright Osayi-Samuel have sent messages to Arsenal and Germany legend Mesut Özil
after the attacking midfielder announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday, March 22.
Iwobi and Osayi-Samuel played together with Özil at Arsenal and Fenerbahce respectively.
The German was teammates with Iwobi at Arsenal for six years before the Nigerian moved on to pastures new, and shared the same training pitch with Osayi-Samuel for eighteen months.
Iwobi and Özil were in the Arsenal side that beat Chelsea to win the 2016-2017 Emirates FA Cup.
A 2014 World Cup winner with Germany, Özil took to social media today to announce the end of his career at the age of 34, saying injuries played a role in his decision to hang up his boots.
"I've had the privilege to be a professional football player for almost 17 years now and I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity," Özil stated.
"But in recent weeks and months, having also suffered some injuries, it's become more and more clear that it's time to leave the big stage of football."
Responding to Özil's post, Bright Osayi-Samuel said : "Living Legend, Thank you for a great career".
Iwobi added : "Legend!".
Iwobi and Osayi-Samuel are currently on international duty with the Super Eagles ahead of the national team's upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau.
