On-loan Gunner Okonkwo keeps thirteenth clean sheet of the season
Published: March 19, 2023
Arsenal-owned goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo continues to prove he has come of age, with another clean sheet for Sturm Graz as they secured a 2-0 road win over WSG Tirol in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday.
The Hale End Academy graduate started the season with Crewe Alexandra and was recalled from his loan spell in the January transfer window before heading to Sturm Graz, where he'll complete the season.
Overall, Okonkwo has kept thirteen clean sheets so far this season - ten in the colours of the Railwaymen and three for the Blackies.
Sturm Graz have been solid at the back since Okonkwo's arrival, with only four goals conceded in the Bundesliga.
Only Dario Tadic (TSV Hartberg), David Affengruber, Markus Pink (both SK Austria Klagenfurt) and Haris Tabakovic (Austria Vienna) have managed to beat Okonkwo after six league games.
The Anglo-Nigerian glovesman wasn't troubled much by the WSG Tirol attackers but performed admirably when he was called into action in the 58th minute, easily saving a deflected effort by Julius Ertlthaler.
In the final game of the regular season, Sturm Graz secured three points courtesy of goals from Dutch-Nigerian-Togolese striker
Emanuel Emegha and Albian Ajeti.
Sturm Graz are expected to hold talks with Arsenal over extending the loan of Okonkwo during the international break.
