Arsenal, Chelsea or Man Utd : Which club currently needs Ndidi more based on philosophy?
Published: July 20, 2022
The transfer window is now gradually getting to the serious stages with clubs around the world either finalizing or walking away from deals.
The Premier League especially has seen the influx of outstanding talents from abroad with the likes of Erling Braut Haaland and Darwin Nunez as prime examples.
Nigerian players have also been on the good side of the transfer market with the likes of Joe Aribo and Malcolm Ebiowei making moves to Premier League teams.
One EPL player who has been deserving of a move to the bigger clubs for some years now is Wilfred Ndidi.
However, he has not been linked to any of the top clubs this summer despite his high-level performances.
This may be due to his current injury problems but allnigeriasoccer.com takes a look at which club needs Ndidi's skillset based on their philosophy between Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester United.
Arsenal are already set on a 4-3-3 with Partey, Elneny and Lokonga as options at the midfield base.
Chelsea have Kante, Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek, and Jorginho as options in their 3-4-2-1 but Manchester United are the curious case as they undoubtedly need a player like Ndidi more than others.
Erik ten Hag has already started the huge rebuild work cut out for him at Manchester United. A new-look midfield is already in the works with the likes of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard already departing the club on free transfers.
The ex-Ajax Amsterdam manager utilizes a 4-3-3 tactical set-up that is based around Juego de Posicion positional play. However, this system requires specific players.
A single base pivot and two attacking number eights otherwise known as interiors who can also help defend via a counter-press immediately after the ball is lost whilst dropping into a mid-block if the press is bypassed.
While Eriksen has been signed, the long-term pursuit of Frenkie De Jong points to a future transition into a 4-3-3.
The first and second matches of Erik Ten Hag's tenure against Liverpool and Crystal Palace revealed a lot of patterns showing what the Dutchman is planning to implement at Old Trafford.
However, Ten Hag has not yet fully transitioned into the 4-3-3 because most of United's midfielders are better suited to a midfield pivot.
Fred does not have the discipline while Scott McTominnay and Donny Van De Beek are not suited to the role.
The lone midfield role is a scarce commodity in the transfer market with clubs that utilize them locking their assets and only selling them for big money. Real Madrid's signing of Aurelien Tchouameni is a testament to this.
Ndidi is quite suited to the role and would be available for less than what Real Madrid paid for Tchouameni. He is also highly experienced in the Premier League and would need little or no time to adjust to the pace of the league.
It's a no-brainer deal for Manchester United as they need him more among the English top clubs.
