Five Nigerian players leave Rangers within a year with Bassey's move to Ajax Amsterdam imminent

Calvin Bassey is set to become the fifth Nigerian player to depart Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Rangers within approximately a year, with the left-sided defender's transfer to Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam imminent.
Last July, Dapo Mebude swapped Rangers for Watford after running down his contract, before 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Malcolm Ebiowei returned to England to link up with Derby County in September 2021.
Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun wasn't offered a new deal at the end of last season and it was a foregone conclusion that Joe Aribo was going to end his three-year association with the Glasgow club this summer after making it clear he wasn't signing a new contract.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Bassey has agreed terms to join Ajax Amsterdam and the transfer is expected to be completed in the coming days, pending a physical examination.
The four-time European champions are bringing in the Super Eagles left-back as a direct replacement for versatile Argentina international Lisandro Martínez, who is close to finalizing his switch to Manchester United.
Bassey has earned a move to one of the traditional European clubs after a banner season that saw him register fifty appearances in all competitions after breaking into the first team of Rangers.
The 22-year-old was left out of the Rangers squad for a pre-season friendly against Blackpool on Saturday due to his imminent transfer to Ajax.
