Arteta runs the rule over 19yo Anglo-Nigerian winger before Arsenal's trip to Watford
Published: March 06, 2022Manager Mikel Arteta ran the rule over Anglo-Nigerian winger Nathan Butler-Oyedeji during Arsenal's final training session before their short trip to Hertfordshire, where they will face Watford in the Premier League, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Butler-Oyedeji's most recent appearance for the Arsenal youth teams was as a substitute in a Premier League 2 clash against Tottenham Hostpur on Friday night, hopping off the bench in stoppage time in a 2-1 win.
He
was in the same team as Alexandre Lacazette, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White,
Granit Xhaka, Mo Elneny, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel during yesterday's
training session at London Colney.
If the 19-year-old is named in the matchday squad against the Hornets on Sunday afternoon, it will be the first time in his career he has been selected for a first team game.
Butler-Oyedeji has been playing for the Gunners youth teams since the
age of seven, rising through the ranks before signing scholarship forms
with the north London club in the summer of 2019, a
scholarship intake also including Nigeria-eligible quartet Miguel Azeez, Daniel Oyegoke, Ovie Ejeheri and Mazeed Ogungbo.
A pacy winger blessed with dribbling skills, Butler-Oyedeji signed his first professional contract with the Gunners in August 2021.
Arthur Okonkwo was spotted in the final training session but is apparently third choice in the pecking order of goalkeepers for the visit to Watford given that senior players Ramsdale and Bernd Leno also took part in the workout.
