Iheanacho bags assist, Ndidi saved from a red, Lookman subbed in as Leicester City beat Leeds
Published: March 05, 2022Leicester City earned their second consecutive clean sheet in the English Premier League after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Leeds United at the King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Wilfred Ndidi, Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho, who have all been named in the Super Eagles squad for the back-to-back matches vs Ghana later this month, were given minutes with the midfielder lasting 76 minutes on the pitch, while the winger and striker came off the bench for the last half an hour.
On 26 minutes, Albrighton's corner, after brilliant play from Ndidi and Dewsbury-Hall, was a good one but Dallas cleared the ball out of danger.
A minute before halftime, the Super Eagles midfielder sent a header towards goal, but Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier was there to comfortably save it.
Thanks to a combination of excellent goalkeeping from Kasper Schmeichel and Harvey Barnes' 67th minute goal that separated the two sides, the Foxes were able to secure all three points.
Barnes played a one-two with Iheanacho inside the area, he got the ball back and curled a low effort past Meslier and into the bottom corner.
Ndidi was walking a disciplinary tightrope after he was yellow carded for a lunge on Daniel James in the 53rd minute so Brendan Rodgers cannot be faulted for taking off the holding midfielder, especially after he escaped another yellow for a challenge on same player.
With the win, Leicester City move into the top half of the table, tenth on 33 points, ahead of Brighton & Hove on goal difference.
