Arsenal loanee Akinola hails Lacazette for forcing stoppage-time winner vs Wolves
Published: February 25, 2022Arsenal-owned Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola has hailed Gunners captain Alex Lacazette for his performance during the hard-fought 2-1 win over this season's surprise package, Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
Akinola wasn't considered for the match because he is currently in Scotland on loan at Premiership side Dundee United, while the likes of goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, center back Zach Awe and Mazeed Ogungbo who have trained with the first team this month were left out of the matchday 20.
A goal from Nicolás Pepé in the last ten minutes cancelled out Hwang-Hee's first half opener.
In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Lacazette forced an own goal when his close range effort was diverted into the net off Wolves goalkeeper Sa's hand.
The Frenchman took to Instagram to celebrate the late win, stating : "We believed until the last second ! So proud of my team, the atmosphere was unreal tonight !! Hows that for a celebration".
Reacting to Lacazette's post, Akinola said : "Smoke".
Arsenal, who have won their last three matches, are fifth in the table with 45 points, but have two matches in hand over fourth-placed Manchester United who have 46 points.
