FAYC : 2019 Nigeria U17 invitee makes series of impressive saves for Chelsea in win vs Blackpool
Published: February 24, 20222019 Golden Eaglets invitee Prince Adegoke was one of the standout performers for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening as the Blues defeated Blackpool in a five-goal thriller to progress to the semifinals of the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
The goalkeeper started alongside Anglo-German-Nigerian fullback Derrick Abu for Chelsea and left-footed striker Tudor Mendel-Idowu was named among the substitutes.
Chelsea had a bright start to the game with Abu sending in a teasing cross which was cleared away for a corner.
Jake Daniels gave the Seasiders the lead in the sixth minute but Harvey Vale curled the ball into the top corner to restore parity on 14 minutes.
Adegoke made a brilliant save to deny Joe Strawn's shot from finding the net in the 39th minute before Malik Mothersille slotted home the rebound to make it 2-1 after his initial header was saved at minute 42.
The Anglo-Nigerian goalkeeper prevented Arnold Matshazi from restoring parity when he blocked his shot for a corner nine minutes into the second half.
Luke Badley's own goal saw the visitors draw level in the 58th minute and Charlie Webster scored what proved to be the winning goal when he converted a spot kick awarded after Abu was brought down in the area in the 72nd minute.
Two brilliant saves by Adegoke in the last fifteen minutes prevented Blackpool from grabbing the equaliser.
