Randers 1 Leicester 3 : Ndidi and Iheanacho assist; Odey scores; sad end for Kehinde; Lookman involved
Published: February 24, 2022Leicester City are through to the round of sixteen of the inaugural Europa Conference League and they did it in convincing fashion, beating Randers 3-1 at Cepheus Park on Thursday evening.
Five Nigerian players were on parade from the off with Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ademola Lookman starting for the Premier League side, while Randers had Tosin Kehinde and Stephen Odey on the pitch from the blast of the whistle.
The Foxes had the opening goal inside two minutes as Ndidi picked out Harvey Barnes and the winger curled a right-footed finish into the far corner - the quickest ever goal scored by Leicester City in European competition.
Leicester City were 6-1 up on aggregate courtesy of a beautiful strike from James Maddison in the 70th minute and he did it again with another gorgeous goal four minutes later with Iheanacho providing the assist.
Odey, who was previously denied on five or six occasions, finally got his name on the scoresheet in the 83rd minute when he took advantage of a goalkeeping blunder to tap the ball into the net.
It was a sad end for Kehinde as he was stretchered off the pitch in the closing minutes after he was fouled by Ndidi, who was shown a yellow card for the challenge.
With the exception of the former Manchester United winger, all the Nigerian players put in a full shift.
