Napoli may offer new contract to Osimhen to fend off interest from Tottenham after reveal by pundit
Published: February 10, 2022Napoli are looking to fend off interest in Victor Osimhen by handing him a new contract, according to retired Italy international turned pundit Salvatore Bagni.
Osimhen, who was bought by Napoli in 2020 for a club record fee of 70 million euros, still has around three and half years left on his contract with the Serie A outfit.
However, the Nigeria international is being linked with a summer move to the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur among his suitors, and to convince him to stay the Naples outfit are planning to offer him improved terms.
"Victor Osimhen is linked to Napoli by a contract that will end on June 30th 2025. The Neapolitans will ask the Nigerian to extend his contract for another season," Bagni said during the broadcast of Si gonfia la rete.
"I can already anticipate the response of the former Lille: he will certainly say yes to Aurelio De Laurentiis".
Bagni does not expect Osimhen to depart Napoli in the summer, noting that he is not convinced that one of the clubs interested in signing the striker will make a bid in the region of 100 million euros.
"I'm not even so convinced that triple-digit offers will arrive to Aurelio De Laurentiis in the coming months.
"The striker is doing very well, but his football is still evolving strongly. When his growth path is completed he will also be able to go to a top international club ".
Osimhen was on target in his first start this calendar year as Napoli defeated Venezia last weekend, taking his tally to ten goals in all competitions so far this season.
