UCL: Ronaldo, Sancho come up with the goods as Man Utd defeat Chukwueze's Villarreal
Published: November 23, 2021
Two late second half goals secured a win for Manchester United against Villarreal in a UEFA Champions League match at Estadio de la Cerámica on Tuesday evening.
Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench to replace Yeremi Pino with seventeen minutes left on the clock - his third consecutive appearance as a substitute in this season's competition after recovering from a long-term hamstring injury.
The Nigeria international has had a difficult start to the season due to his injury problems as he is yet to get up to speed having made his comeback in the middle of last month.
Although both teams entered the interval level at 0-0, Manchester United's David de Gea was the busier of the two goalkeepers.
The Red Devils eventually took the lead and once again it was Cristiano Ronaldo who delivered the goal in the 78th minute.
The Portugal icon pounced on a loose ball and lifted it over the Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli who was caught in no man's land.
And then in the last minute of the ninety, Jadon Sancho scored his first goal in Manchester United colours after his summer move from Borussia Dortmund, slicing a shot into the top corner.
With ten points from five matches, Manchester United have booked their place in the last sixteen of the Champions League.
